Adrienne g., Founder of Embody Her
I started this practice as a niche for our niche — HSP womxn like me & you; read a little bit more about me below:
Along with be-ing a licensed master-level psychotherapist, I am also a: certified body-witch, indie scholar, lapsed artist, ex-bartender, and camrade in lived-experience with mental dis-ease.
I specialize in embodiment: a framework that is rooted in timely neuroscience + timelessly human ways-of-knowing. I continuously study body-based healing modalities — along with quantum-healing modalities that expand from the earthly body.
I received my Master of Social Work (MSW) from Western Michigan University, where I interned in community mental health + a state psychiatric hospital, & was a graduate-level teaching + research assistant. My initial post-grad clinical work focused primarily on eating dis-orders & the associated constellation of psycho/somatic issues.
I most recently trained under Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes, internationally loved creatrix, aka author of Women who Run with the Wolves. I am heavily influenced by her work.
Other trainings/influences include: foundations of Jungian Somatics with Jane Clapp; introductory training at the Embodied Recovery Institute (informed by both Sensorimotor Psychotherapy + Somatic Experiencing); numerous professional workshops in trauma & the body/nervous-system, including the application of Polyvagal Theory via Stephen Porges & Deb Dana and integrating it with Parts-Work (aka Internal Family Systems by Richard Schwartz). Adjacent to my clinical training, I have completed many rounds of Activate Your Inner Jaguar courses via Kimberly Ann Johnson, an Ancestral Medicine intensive via Daniel Foor, a primer in Shamanic Journeying via Sandra Ingerman & am an ongoing student in New Earth Mystery School via Maryam Hasnaa. I am also a nationally certified (NCTMB) Bodyworker, a trained Integrative Restoration (iRest) yoga-nidra/meditation teacher and a Reiki "master.”
Prior to allllllll this, I practiced hands-on bodywork as a Licensed Massage Therapist & Reflexologist, with a specialization in temple-style Lomi-Lomi.
I also hold a BA in English/creative-writing from Kalamazoo College + dropped-out of an MA “in the arts” at NYU.
I adore my brindle pitmix Cassiopeia + our lil’ black kitty Morpheus, quiet, movement, the desert, the deserts of Detroit, fancyish clothes, free-spirits, books — & beauty beauty beauty.
I am a proud first-generation college graduate & only child of a singular single-mom.
